The Taming of the Shrew

Petruchio and Kate - photo Lindsey Burnett The Taming Of The Shrew is William Shakespeare’s comic romp about two unmarried daughters of a wealthy Italian merchant. Older sister Kate matches her gentle and loveable sister Bianca in beauty, but in temperament leaves much to be desired with her razor tongue and strong will. Though Bianca has many suitors, her father will not allow her to marry until Kate has a husband of her own. No one dares to marry the foul-tempered Kate until Petruchio arrives and tries his hand at courtship. Then the real fireworks begin. The battle of the sexes? There really is no contest, is there?
