It's about belonging ... Anne is stubborn, passionate, loyal, and intelligent. She is a talkative and happy girl despite living an impoverished life as an orphan. She is adopted at the age of 11 by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert who are unmarried siblings living on their ancestral farm in Prince Edward Island at the turn of the century. Anne struggles to reconcile her vivid imagination and romantic notions with the rigid expectations of traditional Avonlea society. She has difficulty mixing these social customs with her own unique sensibilities. Her desire for beauty, imagination, and goodness motivates her behavior. She imagines that which displeases her as different than what it is, dreaming up a more perfect world. The very traits that make Anne unique and enrich her inner life also cause her to act passionately and to love and hate with equal fervor.

Come with us as we follow Anne’s journey from misunderstood waif to a confident young woman who changes the lives of everyone around her. As she searches for kindred spirits and acceptance, Anne reminds us to embrace that which makes us unique while finding a place to belong.
