The Odd Couple

Discussing hygene: 'we have a vacuum?'

Felix Ungar has just broken up with his wife. Despondant, he goes to kill himself but is saved by his friend Oscar Madison. With nowhere else to go, Felix is urged by Oscar to move in with him, at least for a while. The only problem is that Felix is neat, tidy, and neurotic, whereas Oscar is slovenly and casual. Between them there's a balance with plenty to laugh about.

Director's Message

Welcome to Emerald Pig’s 8th season and the triumphant return of dinner theatre! We are pleased to bring you this classic comedy from one of the theatre’s most accomplished and funniest playwrights, Neil Simon. On the surface this play is very simple – it’s a comedy. The genius of Simon is his ability to layer his characters’ vulnerabilities and humanity. Fastidious Felix Ungar, on the darkest day of his life, with his marriage ending and entertaining thoughts of suicide, is hilarious. With slovenly friend Oscar Madison, also recently divorced, the true meaning of friendship is apparent. As relevant today as it was in 1965 running on Broadway for 966 Tony-winning performances including Best Play. Simon’s characters are well-drawn and offer the actors many challenges in bringing multi-dimensional people to life with all of their quirks and foibles. It’s been a pleasure to work with this talented and enthusiastic group of actors. I’ve often said that community theatre is supposed to be fun. There is a lot of hard work that is required to create that fun (which is sometimes not so much fun), but in the end, the hard work pays off, the magic takes over and the fun begins! Thanks to my hard-working, fun-loving, magical team, and to you, the audience, for coming and sharing it with us! Enjoy the show!
